My mother was previously a nurse and from a young age, I was introduced to medical talk around the house.

 

I studied medical negligence as an elective both at Newcastle University and during my LPC, which fuelled this interest further. It was no surprise when I pursued a career as a medical negligence solicitor.

 

Whilst I was a fee earner, I managed my own varied case load up to a value of around £100,000. Then, for the last 2 years of my legal career, I focussed on high value and complex medical negligence and serious injury claims, such as amputations, cauda equina syndrome, severe poly trauma.

 

Shortly after qualifying as a solicitor, I took the hard decision to leave the legal profession. I moved to a Medico-Legal Firm, where I realised this was where my strengths lay, combining the legal and medical knowledge I had accrued over the years to provide focussed work tailored to the requirements of the instructing firm.

 

In May 2020, after finishing maternity leave, I decided to start Burton Legal Services to assist the many friends and previous colleagues who still practiced medical negligence in securing closure and compensation for those injured through no fault of their own.
